The Corvette Club of Michigan (CCM) held the first autocross competition in the Michigan Region at the Livonia Fire and Police training facility in Livonia on Sunday May 17th. Over forty entrants keep a constant eye on the ever changing clouds and the course was set up to be fast anticipating bad weather however, in the end we stayed dry and the sun managed to pop out in the afternoon and many (myself included) got a little sunburned. Men’s FTD was Michael Losert (33.5 seconds), Women’s FTD was Mary Wentzel (36.0 seconds), with an average time of about 42 seconds.

The Royal Corvettes of Western Michigan (RCWM) held four rallies in Grand Haven on Saturday May 23rd. The weather was beautiful but it being Memorial Day weekend limited participation to six entrants. The route was not difficult and it took us along Lakeshore drive which is very scenic. In addition to the rallies, the Royals also held a car show in Fruitport on Sunday May 24th. Attendance was much better (it was open to all makes and models) with close to one hundred cars but the weather was worse, with a light rain on and off during the show hours.

The Shiawassee Corvette Club (SCC) held a car show and two rallies in Durand on May 30th. The show was open to Corvettes and all metal cars with a best of show trophy for each category. SCC advertised in both printed media and radio but in the end only twenty Corvettes braved the light rain. This resulted in two best of show trophies for the Corvettes with our own Ron Gelisse winning one of them. Thirteen cars participated in the rally.

The Kalamazoo Corvette Club (KCC) held six rallies in Kalamazoo on June 7th. This was a good event for anyone doing a rally for the first time. Five of the six game rallies were at the starting point, Kalamazoo Community College. Entrants then drove a sixty mile route (no questions to answer) with the six game rally at the halfway point. It was a nice drive at your own pace, going thru many little towns I had never been to before.
